Band 6 Acute Medicine Occupational Therapist - Locum, Kent

JustOT are looking to recruit a highly motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist for a locum position within an acute NHS hospital in Kent.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team, supporting patients across Acute Medicine and Orthopaedic/Surgical wards.

Essential Requirements

• HCPC registered Occupational Therapist
• Previous experience working within an NHS acute hospital setting
• Proven experience working across Acute Medicine and Orthopaedic/Surgical wards
• Strong assessment and discharge planning skills
• Experience facilitating safe and timely patient discharges
• Ability to complete comprehensive functional and cognitive assessments
• Excellent communication and MDT working skills
• Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients admitted to Acute Medical and Orthopaedic/Surgical wards
• Undertake functional assessments to establish rehabilitation and discharge needs
• Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans
• Work closely with physiotherapists, nurses, social workers and the wider MDT
• Coordinate complex discharge planning to ensure safe transitions of care
• Recommend equipment and support services to facilitate independence where required
• Maintain accurate clinical records in line with Trust policies

The successful candidate will be confident managing a varied acute caseload and able to work independently within a fast-paced hospital environment. You will have a strong understanding of discharge pathways, risk assessment, and rehabilitation principles within both medical and surgical settings.
