Our client has a permanent Occupational Therapist vacancy based in Bournemouth /Dorset, Community based required to travel to client houses independently.

This client provides short- and long-term high-quality care and support to adults, their careers and families. 

Role supports our client’s vision of improving lives, building by:

• Delivering a high-quality, efficient Occupational Therapy service in clients’ homes and community settings.

• Promoting strength-based, person-centred approaches to optimise independence and wellbeing.

• Reducing the need for ongoing hospital care, domiciliary packages, and long-term residential placements.

• Providing specialist OT advice, assessment, and intervention to maximise functional ability and quality of life.

• Contributing to service development, training, and professional leadership within the OT and Reablement service.

Job Role:

• Provide comprehensive, evidence-based OT assessments and interventions to meet individual goals.

• Undertake a range of functional and baseline assessments, including personal care, domestic activities, mobility, communication, cognition, and mental capacity.

• Prescribe, demonstrate, and train clients, carers, and staff in safe use of standard and specialist equipment.

• Carry out environmental home assessments and evaluate risks to independence and safety.

• Support reablement by enabling early, safe discharge from hospital and preventing unnecessary care placements.

• Work closely with Social Workers, health professionals, carers, and families to coordinate care.

• Manage a complex and varied caseload, exercising professional judgement in decision-making.

• Undertake risk assessments, including complex moving and handling, and manage safeguarding concerns in line with legislation.

• Act as an advanced practitioner within OT and across services, offering expertise in postural seating, positioning, complex moving and handling, cognition, and contracture management.

Requirements:

• BSc (Hons) or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.

• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Occupational Therapist.

• Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.

• Experience of working with adults in a health or social care setting.

• Experience of multi-professional and multi-agency working.

• Experience in goal setting and evaluating outcome measures.

• Experience of completing risk assessments, including complex moving and handling.

• Excellent clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to adapt style to different audiences and situations.

•Fluent in spoken and written English, able to produce clear, accurate, evidence-based documentation.

• Clear Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes, including visiting clients in the community and other service locations.

• Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends, to meet service needs (e.g., assessing clients at different times of day).

• Knowledge of Health and Social Care legislation relevant to occupational therapy.

• Understanding of delayed transfers of care and their impact on services.

• Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and procedures for adults.

• Understanding of the principles and practice of reablement.
