Our client has a superb vacancy for an Occupational Therapist – Permanent in Rochester.

The role will work closely with the senior management team, referrers, commissioners, suppliers, and operational teams to successfully deliver a person-centred Community Equipment Service that supports individuals in accessing the right equipment for their needs at the right time.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, specialist support and advice to referrers into the Service, as well as managers and colleagues within the Service, to maximise the recycling of specialist equipment, including the review and oversight of special orders. You will support, develop and implement best-practice initiatives to deliver a high-quality, cost-effective and efficient equipment loan service.

Job Role:

• To advise, support and direct CES prescribers on the appropriate use of equipment, catalogue range, clinical reasoning, clinical governance and service provision, while supporting safeguarding systems and processes.

• To review special equipment orders according to local processes and ensure the best use of recycled specials (RSPs) to maximise resources and achieve best value.

• To provide comprehensive, specialist support and advice to referrers, managers and colleagues within the Service to further develop and continue to deliver a high-quality equipment loan service and maximise the recycling of special equipment.

• To utilise supervision, training opportunities and reflective practice to ensure own professional development and contribute to ongoing development and best practice within the service.

• To support the development, review, updating and promotion of clinical governance and prescription criteria, policies, processes and documents, interpreting national policies and guidelines relevant to the speciality.

• To support the equipment review group or groups, providing ongoing review and assessment of the catalogue to ensure it meets the needs of service users, provides value for money and uses up-to-date technology. This includes specialist support in identifying CTEs (close technical equivalents to catalogue products).

• To work with operational and procurement colleagues to update, improve and ensure the best information is available on TCES catalogues and templates.

• To arrange and hold familiarisation, training and demonstration days for prescribers to ensure they are aware of standard catalogue equipment and any new equipment added to the catalogue, while supporting competencies and compliance in advising on and installing equipment.

• To keep updated with developments and innovations in equipment, methods of assessment, treatment philosophies, methods of intervention and evidence-based practice.

• To contribute to the financial delivery of the service, ensuring it is cost-effective, and compile reports including demand and savings produced by RSP work.

• To support market tests for catalogue and special items and jointly work with services to rate and select the best products for the catalogue.

• To identify and initiate evidence-based audits and projects.

• To undertake projects to reduce clinical risk, improve efficiency and produce savings, which could include audits, data analysis, sharing specials and expansion of trusted assessor programmes.

About the Candidate:

My client is looking for Band 6 minimum Occupational Therapists with a good knowledge of community equipment to support the contract.

OTs with experience in Social Care, or with good knowledge of paediatric, seating, or moving & handling equipment, are often particularly well suited to these roles.

These are unusual and specialist roles, working within the depot and acting as advisors only, with no direct assessments involved.

To Qualify:

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy.

• Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

• Minimum Band 6 experience, with post-qualification experience at a senior level.

• Experience of developing, delivering or facilitating training sessions.

• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant Health and Social Care legislation, policy and practice, clinical governance and prescription criteria.

• Good knowledge and experience of community equipment.

• Expert knowledge of moving and handling techniques, equipment and risk assessments.

• Experience or knowledge of Social Care, paediatric equipment, seating and/or moving & handling equipment would be highly desirable.

• Good working knowledge and usage of all MS Office packages and ability to learn new systems.
