Band 6 Locum Inpatient General Medicine / Admission Avoidance Occupational Therapist

JustOT is currently recruiting for an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join an inpatient General Medicine and Admission Avoidance service based in West London.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and skilled OT to support patients across acute medical pathways, helping to facilitate safe and timely discharges, reduce avoidable admissions, and promote independence through high-quality occupational therapy interventions.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, completing comprehensive assessments, identifying functional needs, and implementing person-centred interventions to support patients’ recovery and transition back to their usual environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out specialist occupational therapy assessments for patients within an acute inpatient general medicine setting.
• Support admission avoidance and discharge pathways through timely functional assessments and intervention planning.
• Assess patients’ ability to complete activities of daily living (ADLs) and provide appropriate recommendations.
• Complete equipment assessments and arrange appropriate onward support where required.
• Liaise effectively with the wider MDT, including medical teams, nursing staff, physiotherapists, social care, and community services.
• Provide clinical reasoning and contribute to safe discharge planning.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional standards.

Requirements:

• HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
• Previous NHS experience at Band 6 level within acute inpatient, general medicine, or admission avoidance services.
• Strong knowledge of discharge planning, functional assessments, and community pathways.
• Ability to manage a complex caseload independently.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Immediate or upcoming availability is desirable.
