A vacancy is available for an Occupational Therapist in Surrey to work with special educational needs students.
This school is an established, specialist provision for autistic pupils with associated learning disabilities aged 4–19. Working within a small team of qualified speech and occupational therapists and assistants, you will provide specialist direct and indirect therapy for pupils including addressing motor and perceptual skills, functional life skills, sensory processing difficulties and emotional regulation difficulties.
Job Role
• Assessing, planning and implementing appropriate interventions for pupils with a wide range of needs including motor, perceptual, sensory and functional difficulties
• Planning and delivering therapy sessions for individual students and small groups
• Integrating therapy targets into classrooms, including implementing and overseeing teachers running therapy programmes
• Assessing and evaluating therapy outcomes and reporting findings
• Writing reports to contribute to Annual Reviews and attending reviews as required
• Demonstrating clinical effectiveness through evidence-based practice and outcome measures
• Developing close links with the therapy team and working collaboratively, including joint therapy sessions in line with EHCP needs
• Being responsible for meeting Occupational Therapy needs for individual pupils based on clinical needs and EHCP provision
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case notes in line with professional standards and school policies
• Adhering to local and national standards and maintaining HCPC registration
• Attending regular therapy and whole school meetings and liaising with class staff regularly
• Adhering to all policies and procedures within required timescales
• Undertaking any other reasonable tasks related to the role
Requirements
• Recognised Occupational Therapy degree/qualification
• HCPC registration
• Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists
• Understanding and commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
• Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
• 1–2 years’ experience as an Occupational Therapist (ideally with children or education settings)
• Knowledge of therapeutic interventions (e.g. Sensory Integration, postural management/Bobath) desirable
• Relevant clinical experience in the service area desirable
