New centre in Leicester houses occupational therapists
Thursday 24th June 2010
A new centre specialising in plastic surgery has been opened in the Midlands and occupational therapists will be among the staff working there.
The facility is based at Leicester Royal Infirmary and it has been revamped so it can provide better care for people who require operations, the Leicester Mercury reports.
Costing £150,000, the unit was recently opened by burns victim Kylie Harcourt, who was caught in a house fire two years ago.
The ten-year-old suffered severe damage to her back, fingers, arms, face and neck as a result of the blaze.
Speaking about her reaction to being asked to attend the ceremony, she said: "I was really excited when I was asked if I would cut the ribbon - I couldn't believe it."
The unit is being run by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, which has an annual income of over £500 million and employs a total of around 12,000 members of staff.
