A number of new medical jobs could be created in Sheffield as health officials press ahead with plans to improve services in the city.
Proposals for a multimillion pound treatment centre were unveiled this week, with the facility expected to be completed by 2011 if approval is granted, the Star reports.
The development will boast a range of modern therapy and medical services, including fitness facilities.
Simon Kirk, director of strategy for NHS Sheffield, said the centre will play an important role in improving access to treatment for those in the city.
"It's part of NHS Sheffield's vision to expand the range of healthcare services in Sheffield and improve access to services for local communities," he commented.
"This new development will help us deliver this for local people."
News of the plans comes after a medical centre in Hebburn, Shields, recently received a £1.8 million upgrade that will have come as welcome news to local audiologists.
As well as a new reception and larger waiting area, the funding also allowed the centre to make an audiology department and family planning clinic available on the site.
