NHS trust plans to create new medical facility
Tuesday 11th August 2009
An NHS trust is planning to open a new medical facility which would employ a range of workers, including occupational therapists.
NHS Tayside wants to develop Stracathro Hospital and has submitted proposals for approval, local paper the Press and Journal reports.
It wants to transform the site into a mental health unit that would employ 120 workers and would house 25 general psychiatry inpatient beds and 27 beds for older people, as well as an eight-place day unit.
Eric Lowson, infrastructure services director at Angus council, which is considering the plans, said: "The proposals represent a significant investment in healthcare facilities at Stracathro, which will assist in securing the long-term future of the hospital."
If the proposals get assent from the local authority, the 11-acre site would replace those currently at Sunnyside Royal Hospital.
Employing a total of around 14,000 staff, NHS Tayside provides medical services to more than 388,780 people living in the area.
