Friday 24th April 2009
A hospital has been praised for the services it provides to stroke patients.
In a recent survey, Winchester's Royal Hampshire County Hospital was found to be among the best in the country for such services, with all stroke patients given physiotherapy within the first 72 hours of entering, the Southern Daily Echo reports.
Also, the facility scored highly in terms of the number of patients receiving occupational therapy.
The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) conducted the survey, which involved finding out about the care of 47 stroke patients at the hospital.
It also found that 98 per cent of stroke admissions were screened for swallowing disorders within 24 hours of entering the centre.
Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust is responsible for running the hospital.
The organisation provides healthcare services for around 240,000 people living in the a number of areas - predominantly in Winchester, Alresford, Eastleigh, Andover, Stockbridge and Bishops Waltham.
