Physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists are among the medical professionals who are to benefit from the upgrading of a hospital premises, it has emerged.
According to reports in the Londonderry Sentinel, the south wing of Altnagelvin Area Hospital has undergone a £33 million transformation and is now one of the most modern healthcare facilities in Europe.
Among the services it will offer to patients are chemotherapy, acute care of older people and hydrotherapy.
The phased occupation of the wing will begin in January and is intended to be completed by the end of February.
Commenting on the development, Joe Lusby, director of planning and performance at the Western Trust - which employs around 12,500 people - said: "This is a fantastic development which the Western Trust should not only be proud of but it is one which our city and the wider community throughout the north-west and beyond can justifiably take pride in."
