Podiatrists involved in inter-generational project
Thursday 6th November 2008
A number of podiatry students are set to be involved in a health scheme aimed at bringing generations together, it has emerged.
According to a report in Eastbourne Today, undergraduates at Brighton University will teach older people how to take care of their feet.
Meanwhile, physiotherapy undergraduates will work with the patients on devising tailored fitness plans and on introducing them to tai chi, while occupational therapy students will help them to become more creative and share their skills.
Commenting on the initiative, its project manager Ann Moore said: "The benefits are so strong in terms of what the older people will learn from the students but also what the students learn from older people, not just skills but how to deal appropriately with older people and understand their values."
Recently, podiatrist David Wylie claimed that the number of elderly people receiving assistance for foot problems has risen in Glasgow, with 50,000 currently being treated, the Herald reported.
