Client Group: Brain Injury Centre

Our client is a is a residential service for the rehabilitation of 22 adults with acquired brain injury and neurological disorders. The centre is situated in Plymouth, Devon. They opened in 1998. Since this time, the service has gone from strength to strength and now offers facilities for adults with acquired brain injury as well as Huntington's Chorea, Motor Neurone Disease, and Parkinson's Disease.

Job Role:

To lead and develop the Occupational therapy team for individuals with Acquired Brain Injury
To contribute to and function as part of the multidisciplinary team
To devise and carry out rehabilitation programmes for Clients
Provide specialist occupational therapy advice to the multi disciplinary team and Unit
Provide continual professional development, supervision, and appraisal of Occupational Therapy Assistant/s & Students on placement.
Provide training and clinical support for Rehabilitation Staff within Waters Park House as directed by the Director of Clinical Services
Manage a complex caseload to work alongside Registered Nurses &Team Leaders to ensure a smooth running of the day
Delegate work and cases appropriately
Provide OT expertise in service developments and support the Director of Clinical Services in these developments
Keep abreast of current evidence based practice and national policy relating to specialist clinical area
Develop and maintain relationships with other professionals and external agencies
Provide leadership to the Occupational therapy team, including staff of a variety of grades - Occupational Therapist, Basic Grade Occupational Therapist, Therapy Assistants, and Rehabilitation Assistants.
To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of clients allocated.
To act as a role model.
Provide mentoring and support to Occupational Therapy Team.
Assist with service development in collaboration with The Registered Manager/Proprietor, Director of Clinical Services and Clinical Nurse Lead.
Develop and support the implementation of clinical policies, risk assessments, protocols, and guidelines
Complete induction, student training and education of OT staff and others
To attend Management Meetings, Multi-disciplinary meetings, and handover meeting
To take responsibility for physical resources i.e., therapeutic and assessment equipment within Centre, requesting for replacements and new stock where necessary
To compile reports as and when required to do so.
To produce accurate, timely reports to inform the MDT and external agencies about a client's functional abilities for ongoing support and rehabilitation needs.
To participate in 1:1 supervision with other Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant/s, and Students on placement.
To participate in 1:1 meetings with Director of Clinical Services
To undertake internal and external training courses with approval and or identified by Director of Clinical Services
To identify, set and evaluate OT goals for treatment with Clients. To formulate and deliver OT treatment and intervention, based on assessment and sound clinical knowledge, making relevant recommendations and advise clients, family, rehabilitation assistants, and other staff and voluntary agencies regarding functional skills and specialist information.
To develop further knowledge and experience of specialist Brain Injury area through experience, regular in service training, interdisciplinary.
To carry out specialist neurological assessments including the Cognitive Assessment of Minnesota, Rivermead Behavioural Memory Test, Behavioural Inattention Test, Test of Every Attention, and other relevant neurological assessments.
To use clinical knowledge and life skills to build rapport with Clients, to engage them and motivate them to participate with their therapy in a sensitive and tactful manner.
To gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with clients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
To demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of own discipline and medical conditions, including an understanding these will have on Clients functional status
