Our client in Surrey is looking for an OT to work within their school
Our client is an independent co-educational day provision for pupils/pupils between the ages of 4 and 19, providing primary, secondary and further education for pupils who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Aspergers Syndrome and/or social and communication difficulties.
The purpose of this post is to provide a highly specialist occupational therapy service for the pupils attending the school . The post holder will report to the Executive Head on strategic matters and liaise with the Deputy Head (Pastoral) on operational matters. The role involved making a dynamic contribution to the OT provision at the school . S/he will work collaboratively to deliver assessment, direct and indirect occupational therapy and meaningful outcomes to a managed caseload of pupils.
The post demands skills of proven positive multidisciplinary working with other therapists, teachers, families/carers and external professionals. The expected standards of therapy and collaboration demand very effective organisational and planning skills as well as excellent rapport, flair and creativity as an OT.
Key tasks will be:
*To be responsible for producing the service OT development plan, reviewing and updating progress on a termly basis Producing a half termly OT service impact report for the school's Senior Leadership Meeting
*To have overall responsibility for the quality of assessments for the pupil population of the school including r all aspects of functional skills - fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing ability and independence with life skills.
*To line manage the band 5/6 Occupational therapist
*To be involved in the assessment process for new admissions and providing assessment of sensory and functional skills for pupils
*Providing training on all aspects of sensory and functional skills and involvement in the assessment of pupils on clinical placement (if required)
*Working collaboratively with existing staff teams across the school - including Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists, Education and Administration
*To be part of the strategic development of therapeutic services across group as part of the Senior therapists meetings
*To design and provide specialist intervention programmes for pupils with complex needs in order to support the development of their functional and sensory skills i.e. Sensory Integration Therapy programme.
*To attend regular strategic service development days and in school management meetings to review and monitor the strategic service needs of the school.
*To take a lead role at the weekly Curriculum Access Team meetings representing and addressing the needs of Occupational therapy in the school
