Working with the NHS our client's mission is to provide a unique service that will ensure that all service users will receive the mobility equipment they require on time. They are looking for an exceptional occupational therapist to provide a clinical input to all service users, their families and carers, working closely within the established multi-disciplinary team.
To independently manage a specialist caseload within the wheelchair service working with both disabled children and disabled adults who have complex health, social, mobility and postural needs. To provide the clinical input to the assessment and provision of wheelchairs, pressure cushions and specialist seating to all clients who are referred to the wheelchair service.
Our client will ensure that all service user's receive the mobility equipment they require at the time they require it to enable them to achieve theirs and their family's/carers lifestyle goals. This will be achieved by the following: - Providing the clinical input for all service users, their families and carers working very closely with the multi-disciplinary team supporting the user - Providing the links between clients and other teams such as wheelchair skills training - Developing links with "hard to reach" sectors of the local community by close liaison with the referrers, particularly local therapists.
You will be required -
To provide an assessment service for clients requiring long term wheelchair use
To independently manage a caseload of complex cases relating to mobility, pressure, and postural care and often in combination with learning, communication, cognition and/or perceptual difficulties.
To undertake postural, pressure care and seating assessments, in relation to wheelchair mobility, using a holistic approach.
To carry out and record detailed environmental and functional assessments to ensure consideration is given to both the medical and social aspects of a client's and carer's needs.
To identify clinical and functional risk and assist the client in managing positive risk.
To be responsible for the negotiating of client centred goals, ensuring eligibility criteria is fulfilled.
Formulate individualised action plans based on the assessment findings and clinical reasoning; prescribe appropriate specialist equipment using options from the local matrix of wheelchairs.
To provide help and advice to client's, families, and carers; teaching, and demonstrating the use of mobility equipment to optimise the client's postural and functional ability,
Support client's in their psychological adjustment and their ability to cope with their disability
Work jointly with professional organisations / agencies / charities involved with a client's care to ensure individual client needs are met.
To regularly partake in the providing of training to students / other healthcare professionals regarding the wheelchair service and equipment provision.
To screen and interpret referrals and direct towards appropriate action ! clinic / home visit / prescription,
