Somerset occupational therapists win award

A group of occupational therapists based the Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Somerset, have received an award for some of their work.
The Somerset County Gazette revealed that the occupational therapy orthotics team were highly commended at the Trust Excellence Awards following the development of a new spinal bracing system.
Patients are provided with a bespoke spinal brace, which eliminates the need for it to be fitted in theatre.
Wendy Hooper, team leader at the hospital, told the newspaper that it reduces theatre time and makes life easier for patients.
"As the first hospital in the UK to do this, we've now been running courses for other health professionals to show them how to implement it," she added.
People working in occupational therapy jobs around the UK may find the training from the Somerset hospital of use.
Spinal braces are used to help treat a number of conditions such as thoracic or lumbar vertebrae fractures and longer-term conditions including neuropathic scoliosis, Essex Orthopaedics explained.
