Oxford Brookes University has offered an honorary doctorate to a woman who has spent her life as an occupational therapist.
Anne Lawson-Porter from Rochdale was awarded the degree for her leadership in the education of occupational therapy and multi-disciplinary health, the Manchester Evening News reports.
The 57-year-old has taken up positions at Thameside Hospital, Rochdale Social Services department and the Rochdale District Health Authority during her career, as well as lecturing at Salford University.
Ms Lawson-Porter said that she was surprised to have received the honour.
"I got home from shopping one Saturday to find the letter and I just whooped with delight. It wasn't expected at all. My mum and dad are both in their 80s now ... they were absolutely thrilled," she told the newspaper.
Originally an arts university, Oxford Brookes opened its School of Science in 1870 and it now offers a wide range of subjects at higher education and postgraduate level.
