Patients with lung problems 'need access to occupational therapy'
Monday 14th June 2010
The services of people with occupational therapy jobs, as well as other medical professionals, should be on hand for patients with lung problems.
This is according to Philippa Ford, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy's (CSP's) policy officer for Wales, who said those who need it should not miss out on the pulmonary rehabilitation scheme, WalesOnline reports.
Her comments followed the release of research from the British Lung Foundation Wales, which revealed individuals living in Powys, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire are not covered by the initiative.
Ms Ford claimed there should be access for patients to a range of services, including occupational therapy, smoking cessation, social support and physical training.
She added: "The CSP is also concerned about the distance patients need to travel to access pulmonary rehabilitation and the ways in which they access treatment."
Founded in 1984, the society is governed by an elected council and claims to deliver services to more than 49,000 individuals.
