Occupational therapist undertakes charitable mission
Friday 3rd July 2009
An occupational therapist has undertaken a charitable mission to treat patients in Nepal.
Maria Sleggs decided to swap her life working in Cirencester in exchange for helping people at the Tansen Mission Hospital for three months, the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard reports.
She had visited the healthcare facility in December last year.
Commenting on her work in Nepal, she stated: "It is completely different from working in a UK hospital and as occupational therapy is a new form of healthcare for patients it will be interesting to see how they respond."
Before heading over to the hospital, where she is helping fellow healthcare professionals in the newly built occupational therapy department, she said she was "really looking forward to the challenge".
Ms Sleggs has the full support of her colleagues in the UK, who will be helping her to raise money to send equipment over to Nepal.
Located in Buhusaldanda, the Tansen Mission Hospital is at an altitude of 1,400 metres.
