From the end of this month, almost half of GPs in Gloucestershire will be offering extended opening hours, people with locum doctor jobs may wish to note.
According to a report in the Cotswold Journal, 15 of 17 primary care trusts (PCTs) across the county either do or will offer such hours to patients after the government set a target earlier this year of 50 per cent of surgeries being open longer.
Examples of the additional services include Saturday morning appointments, evening sessions and early morning surgeries.
Jan Stubbings, chief executive of Gloucestershire PCT, said: "Significant progress has been made since spring and local GPs have recognised the importance of listening and considering the views of patients before reaching decisions on opening hours."
She added that over half of surgeries in the area will be offering extended hours by December.
Responsible for 83 GP practices and 11 community hospitals, Gloucestershire PCT provides a range of services, including occupational therapy, speech therapy and podiatry.
