Report reveals hospital overspend

Wednesday 3rd September 2008

A new hospital building in the Northern Irish city of Londonderry has gone over budget by £3 million.

This is the finding of a report compiled by the Northern Ireland Audit Office, which revealed the facility cost £18 million, as opposed to the target of £15 million, people with hospital doctor jobs may be interested to learn.

According to a BBC report, the new building at Altnagelvin Hospital contains a pharmacy and laboratories and is part of a £250 million redevelopment programme for the institution.

A number of factors were identified as having contributed to the overspend, including design changes, procurement delays and negotiations with the preferred bidder.

Meanwhile, managers at West Sussex Primary Care Trust recently confirmed that a multimillion-pound hospital development in Littlehampton is going ahead despite delays, the Argus reported.

The centre would provide medical jobs in a range of fields, including occupational therapy and physiotherapy.
